Add the source first
Every piece of information about your family history has a source,
whether it's a census record, a newspaper article
or even word-of-mouth. Our approach is to first enter the
original source information and say how accurate you think it is.
Make a relationship tree from the source's information
Every source has a small tree of people based on information
that is only in the source. Even the relationships between the
people can only come from the source information.
Layer the source's tree into your family tree
If a person in a source's tree is new to your family tree you can
add the person. If the person is already in your family tree you can
layer that information over what is already known about that person from
other sources. If the sources disagree on a piece of information,
you can choose the one you think is most accurate for your tree.
Repeat 1-3 and watch your tree grow
As the number of information sources grows, as does your tree.
You won't have to worry about keeping track of where all of the
information is coming from because Layered Genealogy
will do that for you.
Share your research with the world
Publish your family tree online and your distant relatives can find you
and share information. Layered Genealogy has an internal message system
and (will have) forums for people to share information and research techniques.
In the future we'd even like you to be able to connect your tree with other
people's trees and collaborate.
